Dog Allergy to Treats During the Holidays

I ran into a neighbor who told me that he gave his dog table scraps over the holidays when he had family over for dinner.

He said he regretted it, but at the time his family was passing out food from the table without concern that dogs might not get along with all the fine foods that we people eat.

I know it’s pretty hard to say no to the cute little doggie begging for treats, but the fact is much of what we have on the table, especially for the holidays is too rich for dogs. It can cause all kinds of allergy reactions and trigger sickness down the road that is hard to identify as resulting from a turkey stuffing plate on Thanksgiving.

Treatments for dog allergy problems are something you’d rather avoid. YOu can do this by giving them only basic foods you know that are safe for dogs.

I guess a small amount of turkey might be ok – but preferably you’d have some regular food you normally feed your pet which you know is safe and does not cause allergy problems for your pet. Corn and grains in stuffing and in gravy and in the sauces we humans eat can really strike a fatal blow to dogs.

Try to be sensible and only give your dog safe treats this holiday season.
